Kiosk shaping up

I spent most of the day supervising the signage being put up today in our Flight School kiosk at Virginia Airport. Quite hectic getting the lettering at straight, but looking good so far.

Was a bit of a bitch getting the backdrop photo up and it has some wrinkles.. anyone know how to "iron" them out? Tried pricking holes but the glue under the bubbles must have already dried.

This board was supposed to be on clear perspex so has to be re-done

Kiosk takes shape

The kiosk for Durban Skyye Flight School is in the main Concourse of Virginia Airport and we were hard at work this evening sticking the backdrop photo onto the wall. The pic was taken by Brad's brother-in-law, Justin Wright, whilst I handled the controls of our plane ZDL as we swooped over the beaches from uShaka to Umhlanga to get the best view of the coastline and waves.

It actually took three flights at different times to get the best shot and the chosen pic was cropped and digitally printed today to a size of 2,9m x 1,7m to take up the back wall of the kiosk.

We only managed to get the top half stuck down by the time the recommended quantity of glue ran out and I will need to finish the job in the morning before the signwriters arrive to mount the Flight School signage. Watch this space for more pics of the finished work.

Sunrise

In aviation terms "day" is defined as the period from 15 minutes before sunrise to 15 minutes after sunset, and "night" is therefore conversely the period up to 15 minutes before sunrise and from 15 minutes after sunset.

The pic Dave took below is at sunrise at Virginia Airport.. you can just see the little runway lights visible in the dark in front of the bushes that separate the airfield from the beach. Dave obtained his night-rating last year and has enjoyed some spectacular flights over Durban at night.

Getting our Virginia kiosk ready

Brad and Dave put in some work at the new Durban Skyye kiosk at Virginia Airport ahead of the CAA inspection for the approval of the Flight School this week. The kiosk was repainted and will have a full photo of the Durban beachfront on the back wall, whilst new cupboard doors were fitted in an all-day session yesterday by Brad and Dave.

Durban Sky Airshow

We've got a new Airshow coming to wow us in Durban 21st - 23rd March 2014. Although appropriately named Durban Sky, it is not associated with our Flight School but should be a good addition to the local aviation calendar. The event is scheduled to take place offshore from North Beach, Durban.

Here's a link to the event's Facebook page.

Durban Skyye

I was up early this morning to get some great shots of the Durban coastline from my plane and to promote the flight school Durban Skyye which opens soon. Here's a short GoProYouTube vid of the beachfront Dave took from his Sling airplane.

Inland from the coast

One of the beauties of not being bound to an Airport and operating solely at the coast is the amazing inland scenery we have on our doorstep. Most flight training organisations in the city tend not to venture far from the sea, whereas Durban Skyye Flight School will use a variety of airfields both in the city and further afield towards the west.

This photo was taken from the Cato Ridge area, flying towards Groutville to land at Ballito airfield.
